But the US national team held their nerve and showed their quality to earn a last-gasp 2-1 win in the 2017 Gold Cup final at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Wednesday, paced by well-taken goals from Jozy Altidore and Jordan Morris. Jamaica lost their talismanic goalkeeper, the Philadelphia Union's Andre Blake, to a hand injury early in the match, and things soon got even grimmer for the Reggae Boyz as Altidore blasted a scintillating long-range free kick off the underside of the crossbar past Blake's replacement Dwayne Miller.

Christian Pulisic scored early in the second half, defender John Brooks limped off with a hip injury and the Americans played out a 1-1 friendly draw against Venezuela on Saturday night, a warm-up for a pair of World Cup qualifiers next week. Jose Manuel Velazquez put Venezuela ahead in the 29th minute, but the 18-year-old Pulisic levelled in the 61st with his fifth goal in 15 international appearances.

Video Highlight All Goals USA U20 6 - 0 New Zealand U20 - On the strength of four goals by MLS players, the US Under-20 national team advanced to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup quarterfinals on Thursday with a dominant 6-0 win over New Zealand in Incheon, South Korea. 

The USA advance to play Venezuela in the U-20 World Cup quarterfinals on Sunday (1:50am ET on FS2) within hours of an international friendly between the senior teams of both countries at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah on Saturday night (10 pm ET on FS1).
